Let's know about Prodrugs

                            PRODRUGS

    

                                   

               These are the compound which are inactive in themselves but which are converted in the body to active drug by metabolic enzymes

Eg: Ester prodrugs are hydrolyzed by Esterase enzyme      

R- COOMe/Et   ➔  R-COOH  + Et OH /MeOH 

         Not all the prodrugs are activated by metabolic enzymes, some can undergo Photodynamic Therapy involving the use of an external light source to activate the prodrugs

Example of Photosensitizing agents are Porphyrins and Chlorins. These are used in cancer treatment.
